You have a good education, perhaps a good job or successful career, your own flat, car etc. but still not satisfied?
Then we invite you to read on …..
Sometimes the thought of consecrating our life totally to God as a Sister crosses our minds…. And sometimes it just won’t go away ….. not as rare an occurrence as you might think! In fact we still have young women joining us (and some not so young) whose desire is to do just that.
There is no age limit to becoming a Sister – after all it is God who calls and He is free to call at any age - every “call” is unique. It can sometimes be a slow process while for others we are “surprised” by a sudden insight into God’s love which impels us to a movement of total self-giving…. Whatever the experience, we have understood at some level that what we have lived so far is not enough for us in terms of our relationship with God and what we desire to do with the gift of life we have been given.
Some young women who already have a profession, wonder whether they would be able to continue working in that Profession as an Oblate of the Assumption. Our only objective is to work for the Coming of God’s Kingdom and we are not restricted to any particular area of work although we are expected to be flexible since we always put the “common good” before our own. Currently our Sisters include Legal Assistants, Journalists, Artists, Teachers, Nurses, Speech Therapists, Chaplains, Radiographers, Doctors, Cooks, Pastoral workers, Rural Development Workers, Care Assistants and Secretaries to mention but a few……. we all work together with local people to bring about the Kingdom of God. Actually it is less about “what we do” than who we are and what our ultimate mission is. Being a Sister is, after all, not a profession but a Vocation which changes the “colour” of the way we live.
